The "Achim" was to be lightered on Nov 23 at the grounding site in Vilshofen, Passau municipalty. A part of the 1.100 tons nitrogen fertilizer were to be taken off. During the salvage work the Danube had to be barred for shipping. since 7 a.m. river upstream and 9.30 a.m. river downstream. The ship was constantly being dewatered by fire rescue and Technical Support Work (THW) to keep it stable. About 200 rescue forces were on scene. The barge was successfully refloated in the afternoon of Nov 23 after about one third of the cargo was taken off and pulled to the dock in Heining/Passau at 5.30 p.m. In Passau the remainder of the cargo was to be unloaded. Barge grounded on the Danube

On Nov 22, 2017, at 7.30 a.m., short after having sailed from Vislhofen, the "Achim“, 1196 ts (EU-No.: 04011260), ran aground on the Danube at Vilshofen-Wieshof, river km 2251,4, with a cargo of 1.000 tons fertilizer. The master had misinterpreted the fairway buoys in dense fog and got out of the fairway. The ship was breached on rocks and suffered water ingress. Due to the double hull the cargo was not affected and the ship not in danger of sinking. The police and fire rescue attended the barge with the "Inn" (MMSI: 211623160)and supported the master in his dewatering attempts. Passing traffic was not hampered. The further measures regarding salvage and removal of the ship were to be decided in the afternoon. On Nov 23 the "Hannelore" (MMSI: 211746400) joined the scene.
