Cruise ship returned to Lisbon for medevac
The 'AIDAstella' had to return to Lisbon on the evening of Sep 4 for an emergency medical disembarkation. After an overnight stay in the city, the ship had departed as scheduled at 4:00 p.m. LT, heading for Cartagena. The medical emergency occurred while the ship was sailing out along the Tagus River, prompting it to return to its berth. An ambulance was already waiting at the pier to transport the patient to a hospital. Performing an unscheduled turn in the Tagus estuary was the best option for carrying out the emergency disembarkation in this instance. Captain Daniel Richter kept the guests informed about the situation. Although disembarkation via boat was briefly considered as an option, it was not ultimately carried out. Following the transfer of the patient, the 'AIDAstella' soon departed from the Rocha Cruise Terminal once again, heading for the Mediterranean. Due to these events, the ship passed beneath the famous Ponte 25 de Abril (25th of April Bridge), which spans the Tagus River at the entrance to Lisbon, a total of three times. The emergency disembarkation did not affect the remainder of the itinerary; the delay of approximately two hours could easily be made up during the following sea day by slightly increasing the ship's speed.
Crew member medevaced off Punta Europa
On the afternoon of Aug 22, the 'Aidastella' requested the medical evacuation of a sick crew member. The CCS of Salvamento Marítimo in advised contacting the International Radiomedical Center in Rome first. Upon receiving the information, it recommended a medevac. The CCS mobilised the SAR boat'Salvamar Denébola' and set the rendezvous four nautical miles southeast of Punta Europa. One hour later, the 'Salvamar Denébola' went alongside the cruise ship, carries out the evacuation, and proceeded to the port of El Saladillo. From there, the sick crew member was transferred to the hospital.
Port call skipped due to medevac
On its Atlantic leg from Namibia to Cape Verde, the 'AIDAstella' was forced to turn back on March 17, 2026, due to a medical emergency on board. On the first of seven scheduled sea days, the ship turned around in the South Atlantic and sailed at high speed back to Walvis Bay to transfer a passenger ashore, which was the nearest port in the region, where the ship had been scheduled to call on Jan 16. During the emergency medical disembarkation in the night, the ship did not dock in port but stopped just before entering the harbour. The patient was brought ashore by boat and then transported to a hospital as quickly as possible. Shortly afterwards, the 'AIDAstella' resumed its scheduled course. However, the remaining six days at sea were not enough to reach the next port of call, Praia on the island of Santiago, on time on March 24. Due to the delay, the ship had to skip its stop in Cape Verde and now sailed directly to Santa Cruz de Tenerife for a total of ten days at sea.The 'AIDAstella' was due to arrive there on March 27. Before concluding its transatlantic voyage in Palma de Mallorca, the ship will make only one more stop in Gibraltar.
