Engine failure in Kos

On the afternoon of June 13, 2026, the Kos Port Authority was informed that during the departure of the 'Akcakoca' on a scheduled route to the port of Bodrum, the port side main engine failed to start. The passengers were forwarded to their destination with the care of the ship-owning company. The Kos Port Authority banned the ship from sailing until the damage was repaired and a class maintenance certificate was presented by the monitoring classification society.

When sailing between Bodrum and Kos island the "Akçakoca" was disabled by an engine failure with 169 passengers and a crew of four on board on Nov 18, 2018, at 11 a.m. and went adrift on the outskirts of Karaada upon its return from Kos. The Turkish Coastguard and the lifeboat "Kiuyem-2" came to assist. The lifeboat took the vessel in tow and pulled it to Bodrum where the passengers were safely disembarked and repairs started.
