Tug grounded near Pantai Batu Rakit
On Dec 14, 2025, the 'Alaska Dolphin', en route to tow a barge with a cargo of sand from Songhkla to Punggol, Singapore, with six Indonesian crew members, aged between 20 and 38, on board, went adrift at Pantai Batu Rakit near Kampung Tanjung and ran aground at a breakwater construction area. The vessel had suffered damage and was caught by strong waves. The police received a report at 4.30 p.m. The rescue efforts were difficult and time-consuming due to bad weather conditions and strong waves that had persisted since on the night before. The police have cordoned off the area. The tug was pulled closer to the shore with an excavator within 1,5 hours. Three of the crew, who were trapped op board, were successfully rescued at 6.20 p.m. by the Kuala Nerus Fire and Rescue Station using a rope, which was attached to the tug and tied and the breakwater rocks. The three rescued crewmembers were monitored by the Terengganu Civil Defence Force medical team. The crew was then taken to the local police station for further handling. Their employer has been instructed to handle their return travel arrangements. All of the crew possessed valid identification documents and permits.
