Inland tanker in allision in Rotterdam
On July 22, 2026, at 5.45 p.m. the 'Alemar' allided with a jetty at the Rhijnspoor Quay near the Maasboulevard in Rotterdam following problems with the rudder. The impact caused significant damage. The gangway of the jetty broke off and landed on the quay. The pontoon was dislodged from its position, but remained attached by two steel chains. Significant damage occurred on the quay side, while damage on the waterside remained limited. The Port of Rotterdam was on site to monitor the situation. An incident management company cut the steel chains, after which the pontoon was towed away by Hebo to the Botlek. The damaged bridge section was to be removed at a later date. The jetty, which was managed by the Municipality of Rotterdam, was declared a total loss, The tanker was moored 500 metres away at Noordereiland for an inspection by the Port Authority, which found that it had sustained hardly any damage. No one was injured in the allision. The police and the Port Authority investigated the circumstances of the incident. After the investigation was completed, the ship was able to continue its voyage to Dordrecht and Gorinchem.
