Tanker rescued two fishernen
Coast Guard Southeast District watchstanders coordinated the rescue of the two mariners Calvin Roman and Zachary Wade, after their 30-foot fishing vessel sank approximately 75 miles offshore of Brunswick, Georgia, on Sep 21, 2026. Southeast District watchstanders received an emergency position indicating radio beacon alert from the vessel at 6:50 a.m. and directed multiple air assets to respond. Watchstanders reached out via radio relay to the 'American Phoenix' and requested their assistance. The tanker, enroute from Marcus Hook to Galveston, rescued Calvin Roman and Zachary Wade clinging to a bean bag after their vessel sank. No serious injuries were reported. The mariners reported they were fishing since Sep 19. Their vessel started taking on water abruptly on Sep 21, with one crew member swimming down to retrieve the submerged and sinking EPIRB from its hydraulic release valve. A Coast Guard Station Mayport rescue boat crew rendezvoused with the tanker roughly four miles off of Mayport, embarked the two mariners, and transported them ashore. The Coast Guard sectors Charleston and Jacksonville, Air Station Savannah and Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater assisted in the search.
