Barge damaged in allision in Dortmund
On Dec 15, 2025, at 6:24 p.m., the Dortmund Fire Department was notified of the allision of the 'Anja 1', enroute from Dorsten, and a sheet pile wall near the Ellinghauser Street Bridge. The impact caused severe damage to the bow of the ship, which was loaded with scrap metal. It was able to reach the Hardenberg Port under its own power and docked there. Due to a crack in the bow hull, water entered the foreship. The Incident Command Unit (A-Service), the Special Recovery Unit, the Special Watercraft Unit with the fireboat, the Special Water Rescue Unit with divers on standby, and the Communications Unit with a drone were deployed. Upon arrival, the fire department conducted an initial reconnaissance of the scene, including the use of a drone. Since the power supply to the forward section of the ship had failed due to the water ingress, it was restored using a generator from the fireboat, which had arrived in the meantime. This allowed a submersible pump to be operated and the amount of water in the ship to be reduced. During the subsequent operation, port personnel used a grab excavator to unload the scrap metal from the cargo hold. The unloading reduced the ship's draft to such an extent that the damaged area in the bow was no longer submerged, preventing further water ingress. The ship's power supply was subsequently restored. The scene was then handed over to the captain of the ship. A total of 24 firefighters from the Dortmund Fire Department were deployed. The operation concluded at approximately 8:40 p.m. The 'Anja 1' left Dortmund again on the morning of Dec 18 and berthed in Duisburg the same day, where it remained stationary as of Dec 19.
