22 migrants rescued in numerous responses
On Aug 8 and 9, 2026, several departures of migrant boats off the coast of Seine-Maritime were reported to the CROSS Jobourg and CROSS Gris-Nez. On the morning of Aug 8, 2026, the CROSS Jobourg was notified by a witness of a boat departing off the coast of Antifer and relayed the information to the CROSS Gris-Nez, which deployed the VCSM 'Oyapock' and the RIB 'Trou au Quin - 6-014' from the SNSM station Fécamp to monitor the situation. The migrant boat repeatedly broke down along its route, prompting the 'Oyapock' to deploy its EDO to offer assistance to the migrants, who refused it. Shortly after midnight on Aug 9, the CROSS Gris-Nez deployed the BSAA 'Argonaute' to assist the 'Oyapock'. A few hours later, in response to a request for assistance from those on board, the 'Oyapock' launched its EDO again and took on board the 20 occupants, who were transferred to the 'Argonaute' and disembarked at Boulogne-sur-Mer. Later that morning, the CROSS Gris-Nez was notified of a migrant boat off the coast of the Paluel nuclear power plant and dispatched the lifeboat 'Commandant Chandelier II - SNS 224' from the SNSMstation in Saint-Valery-en-Caux, which came to the aid of the vessel. During the vessel's recovery, the CROSS successively dispatched the lifeboat 'Président J-C Fortini -SNS 209' from the SNSM station in Le Tréport, the VB 'Abeille Normandie', resources from the Departmental Fire and Rescue Operations Center (CODIS) 62 (a personal watercraft and a light rescue boat (BLS), and finally the lifeboat 'Notre Dame Des Sables - SNS 7-034' from the SNSM station in Berck. During a boarding attempt at Berck beach, 30 migrants became cut off by the tide and were rescued by sea and land resources, while their boat, now carrying 232 people, continued its voyage. Now the 'Minck' was deployed by the CROSS Gris-Nez to reinforce the rescue operation. At the end of the day, two occupants from the boat requested assistance and were taken aboard the 'Abeille Normandie'. The migrant boat continued on its way and was subsequently taken into British care. The two people, who were rescued by the emergency tug, disembarked in Calais on the morning of August 10.
11 migrants rescued in Dover Strait
On the afternoon of August 7, a boat carrying 89 migrants in the Dover Strait was reported to the CROSS Gris-Nez. To monitor the boat and provide assistance to its occupants if necessary, the BSAA 'Argonaute' was deployed by the CROSS. During its journey, the boat experienced several breakdowns, and the 'Argonaute's emergency response team (EDO) rescued 11 people who wished to abandon the crossing. The rest of the boat occupants continued on their way to British waters, while the 'Argonaute' disembarked the rescued individuals, two of whom had sustained minor injuries, at Boulogne-sur-Mer for transfer to the shore-based emergency services.
173 migrants rescued from burning boat
On Aug 3, the CROSS Gris-Nez was alerted to the departure of a migrant vessel near Veules-les-Roses. The SNSM station in Dieppe, along with the 'Argonaute' and later the 'Minck', were deployed to monitor the boat's crossing throughout the day and night of August 3-4. While monitoring the situation, five people on board the boat required to be rescued and were taken aboard the 'SNS 076' from Boulogne-sur-Mer and brought back to port in Boulogne. The remaining people on board refused the assistance offered by the French rescue services. On the morning of Aug 4, while still in a French rescue zone, near the British rescue zone, its engine caught fire, and the vessel's integrity deteriorated rapidly. The CROSS immediately broadcast a Mayday relay message and deployed available resources to the area to rescue the shipwrecked migrants, consisting of the 'Minck' and its RIB, the 'Argonaute', a Dauphin helicopter from the 35F flotilla detachment based in Le Touquet, the lifeboat 'RNLI 14 02' from the station in Eastbourne, the British Border Force vessels 'BSC Contender' and 'BSC Courageous' and a team of two paramedics from the SAMU 62 in Boulogne-sur-Mer. The 'ESMP 03' was also deployed by CENTOPS. At the end of the rescue operation, a total of 173 people were rescued, using the following resources: five people by the 'SNS 076' during the night and again in the morning; 30 people by the BSAA 'Argonaute'; 75 by the 'Minck'; 63 people were on British vessels. All castaways were transferred to the 'BSC Contender' and disembarked at Boulogne-sur-Mer to be taken care of ashore by the rescue services on Aug 4 at 12:30 p.m.
