Grounding on Ghent-Terneuzen Canal
The 'Arklow Falcon', enroute from Antwerp, ran aground while transiting the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal on Aug 20, 2026, at 7.15 p.m. The vessel struck the bank with its bow near the Bulk Cargo Port at Terneuzen. Ahead of the grounding, the 'Arklow Falcon' had lost steering control. It was not yet clear exactly what caused the ship to veer off course. At around 7:50, p.m. the crew managed to free the ship under its own power. Other shipping traffic on the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal was able to continue during the incident. The ship was subsequently taken to the Goese Quay for inspections. Damage to the ship appeared to be limited. According to Rijkswaterstaat, there was no leakage, and no one was injured. The tug 'Multratug 16' was nearby after the grounding, but it was unknown whether the tug provided assistance.
