Crew member successfully rescuscitated
The sea rescuers from the Timmendorf/Poel station of the DGzRS were called out on August 13, 2026, to assist a seriously ill crew member of the 'Atalanta' in the Wismar Bay. At approximately 2:15 p.m., the crew of the sailing vessel contacted the MRCC in Bremen, after a 72-year-old crew member had collapsed on board and required resuscitation. The former pilot schooner was located just over half a nautical mile southwest of Rustwerder. The MRCC immediately alerted the volunteer crew of the lifeboat 'Wolfang Wiese', stationed in Timmendorf on the island of Poel, as well as a rescue helicopter from NHC Northern Helicopter. The sea rescuers set sail shortly thereafter and headed for the 'Atalanta'. Water rescuers from the German Life Saving Association (DLRG) on Poel had also received the distress call via maritime radio and approached the tall ship with a rescue boat. Medical personnel were on board the 'Atalanta' and had begun resuscitation efforts immediately after the collapse. Upon their arrival, the water rescuers boarded the tall ship and assisted with the resuscitation. A few minutes later, the 'Wolfgang Wiese' also arrived at the scene. By the time the sea rescuers boarded, the patient had a measurable pulse again. Sea rescuers, water rescuers, and the medical personnel then jointly treated the man and accompanied the sailing ship to Wismar. They succeeded in stabilising the patient sufficiently to allow him to be airlifted to a hospital by the rescue helicopter, which had meanwhile landed in Wismar. During the operation, the sea was calm with light winds from varying directions. Report with photo: https://www.seenotretter.de/aktuelles/seenotfaelle/medizinischer-notfall-auf-traditionsschiff
