Bulk carrier set sail again after turboshaft engine failure, fire and detention
After 18 days stuck at the dock in the port of Bayonne, the "Aurora One" has finally set sail again on March 1, 2026, enroute to Caen-Ouistreham. It dropped anchor off the port in pos. 49° 20' N 000° 12' W on March 2. Arriving from the Russian port St. Petersburg, the bulk carrier had been detained in Bayonne following inspections that revealed technical deficiencies and raised concerns about the crew's well-being. The vessel, loaded with steel plates, had suffered a turboshaft engine failure before its arrival. A small fire broke out at the time of the breakdown. Shortly after its docking on Feb 9, the CSN (Naval Safety Commission) decided to inspect the vessel, resulting in its detention.
