Collision with patrol boat

The BAE 'Los Ríos (CM-13)' was involved in a collision on Aug 31, 2026, during naval exercises off the coast of Santa Cruz Island, with the Coastguard patrol boat LAE 'Isla San Cristóbal (LG 34)' (IMO: 9757668) during the multinational exercise GALAPEX IV, an international tactical naval exercise taking place in Galápagos waters involving vessels from multiple nations. The 'Isla San Cristóbal' ran into the starboard side of the 'Los Ríos', and suffered significant bow damage. Some personnel fell into the water. Adjacent vessels intervened rapidly, and all affected crew members were rescued. Emergency environmental contingency teams have been deployed to inspect both hulls for structural damage and rule out any fuel leakage into the protected waters.
