Fire claimed lives of two crew members

Fri Nov 01 10:42:28 CET 2024 Timsen

A fire broke out in the engine room of the 'FG Sevil' , with 17 crew members and eight shipyard workers on board, off the coast of Sedef Island in the Marmara Sea on Oct 31, 2024, resulting in the deaths of the two crew members Hüseyin Aydemir and Gökhan Kan, while the ship was en route from Limas to Yalova. Türkiye’s General Directorate of Coastal Safety deployed emergency vessels, including the lifeboat 'KEGM-4' and the tugs 'Kurtarma 7' and 'Şark' in order to contain the fire and assist the crew. Th firefighting teams managed to extinguish the blaze after an intense response. Two missing crew members were found unresponsive in the engine room and later confirmed dead. The 'Şark' took the ship in tow tothe Kartal Anchorage, where further inspections were to take place. The authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
