Tanker successfully refloated off Sarıyer Kısırkaya

Fri Oct 23 22:07:39 CEST 2026 Timsen

On Oct 20, the drone damaged 'Banda', which had run aground due to severe weather conditions in the Black Sea, was refloated off the coast of Sarıyer Kısırkaya in the Istanbul region. Following an underwater survey conducted by a diver team, which was affiliated with the General Directorate of Coastal Safety, the salvage operation was successfully carried out by the tugs 'Nene Hatun' (IMO: 9675004), 'Kurtarma 8' (IMO: 9598610) and 'Şark' (MMSI: 271043518), assisted by the lifeboat 'Kiyem 4' (MMSI: 271042658). On Oct 21, the tanker was held off the Bosphorus approach in pos. 41° 22' N 028° 58' E and transited it, towed by tugs of the General Directorate of Coastal Safety and escorted by a lifeboat, on Oct 23. Drone damaged tanker ran aground near Istanbul

Mon Oct 19 08:20:36 CEST 2026 Timsen

The 'Banda' lost control and ran aground in the Sariyer district of the Black Sea coast of Istanbul west of the Bosphorus due to strong winds on Oct 15. The six-person runner crew was in good health and has not requested assistance. The Turkish Coast Guard and the Emergency Response Vessel 'Nene Hatun' (IMO: 9675004) attended the scene, but the crew did not request an evacuation and was so far safe on board. The vessel was attacked by naval drones on July 14 approximately 70 nautical miles southwest of the Russian port of Novorossiysk by the Security Service of Ukraine. It was unloaded and approaching the terminal to load a cargo of crude oil. Ukraine asserted that the tanker had transported Russian crude oil from the ports of Ust-Luga, Kerch, Novorossiysk, and Nakhodka. The vessel was struck near the stern, which caused a heavy explosion and a fire. It said there was also water ingress that flooded the engine room and left the vessel blacked out.  The salvage company Tsavliris sent a tug and a salvage team, which started towing the tanker on July 17 and boarded it to effect repairs on July 22. The tanker was stabilised, a portable generator was placed aboard, and repairs were made in the accommodation block for the crew. Tsavliris delivered the tanker at a Turkish anchorage on Aug 19. Turkish authorities indicating the ship was struck again on Sep 2, but did not provide any details on the incident. It was the second previously damaged tanker to run aground off the Turkish Black Sea coast in the past two days. On Oct 14, the tanker 'Grace Romavictor', which was also previously attacked in the Novorossiysk area, washed ashore in the Çatalca area. Two Russian shadow tankers struck by Ukrainian drones

Sun Sep 06 13:59:07 CEST 2026 Timsen

The Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with the Ukrainian Navy, struck the “Louise 1” (IMO: 9290323) and “Banda” in the Black Sea on July 15, 2026. The ships, which are under Ukrainian sanctions, were targeted by SSU “Mamai” maritime drones. During the attack, Russian aircraft attempted to engage the drones, firing machine guns and dropping bombs, but without success. The tankers were struck in the engine room area at the height of the waterline. An oil boom was ludicrous out around the stern of the ' Banda'. Both vessels were belonging to Russia’s shadow fleet. The “Louise 1” was involved in transporting Russian crude oil during the period of the G7 and EU oil embargo. The vessel transported oil from Russian ports in the Baltic and Black seas while disabling its AIS. In 2026 alone, it transported nearly three million tonnes of Russian Urals crude oil. The “Banda” also transported Russian crude oil from the ports of Ust-Luga, Kerch, Novorossiysk, and Nakhodka.
