Barges were in head on collision
Already on Aug 24, 2025, the inland vessel 'Rio Grande' was in a head on collision with the inland vessel 'Bavaria 83'. Both ships were able to continue on their way on the Main Danube Canal. The 'Bavaria 83', however, had suffered significant bow damage, which was covered with a tarpaulin, while the ship proceeded on the river, but needed to be repaired in a shipyard. It arrived at Enns on Sep 1 and berthed at the Erlenbacher Schiffswerft Maschinen- und Stahlbau GmbH shipyard on Sep 10, where it remained stationary as of Oct 29. Barge refloated, river free again
The "Bavaria 83", 2792 ts (EU-No.: 04502760), which had run aground on the Danube aground near Parkstetten in the Straubing-Bogen region near the B20-brige on Sep 29 at 2.30 a.m. refloated without assistance at 1.30 p.m. supported by the strong river current. The ship was emergency anchored a short distance from the grounding site, and the river was re-opened for ship traffic at 1.45 p.m. Experts surveyed the damage to the ship at the anchoring site.
Danube traffic barred after ship grounding
Ship traffic on the Danube had to be stopped completely in the early morning of Sep 29 after the "Bavaria 83" ran aground near Parkstetten in the Straubing-Bogen region on a sand bar and got perpendicular to the fairway. The ship was enroute from Regensburg to Enns with a cargo of 1600 tons construction steel. Bow and stern of the ship were stuck on both river shores.
