Cargo lightered in Terneuzen

Mon Oct 13 22:11:09 CEST 2025 Timsen

On Oct 10, the 'VDS 36' arrived from Hansweert, in order to lighter the cargo from the 'Ben Gus'. She was later moved to the Goesse Quay, where the other ship involved in the collision the previous day, the 'France', was also moored. The 'Ben Gus' had significant damage amidships, making it unstable. The cargo consisted of of steel beams. The transfer took place to the barge 'Antverpia 4' of the pusher tug 'Teunis' (MMSI: 244010770). Meanwhile the tug 'Multratug 8' returned the crane pontoon to Hansweert. The police and the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) were investigating the cause of the accident. The extent of the damage to both vessels was still being investigated in Terneuzen. Ten years ago, the 'Ben-Gus' had collided with the Dutch barge 'Zandkreek' near Terneuzen. Both vessels were found guilty at that time. Collision in Terneuzen

Fri Oct 10 10:39:16 CEST 2025 Timsen

On the morning of Oct 9, 2025, at approximately 8:35 a.m., the ' France' (MMSI: 205331090), departing the lock, was in collision with the 'Ben Gus', bound from Ghent to Antwerp, in the Westbuitenhaven in Terneuzen. The tug 'Multratug 22' (IMO: 8662787), which had also sailed from the lock, towing the sheerleg 'Cormorant' (IMO: 7328073), immediately proceeded back to the lock. The 'Ben Gus' was moored at the pilings in the Westbuitenhaven. It was then attempted to transfer the ' Ben Gus' to the Antverpia 104 with the pusher tug 'Teunis' (MMSI: 244010770). This was, however, unsuccessful. As of Oct 10, the ship was moored in pos. 51° 20' N 003° 49' E at the lock. The tugs 'Multrasalvor 4' (IMO: 8224286) and 'Multrasalvor 5' (IMO: 8871625) as well as the patrol boat 'RWS 78' (IMO: 9479137) of Rijkswaterstaat were also present on site. The 'France' was moored at the jetty at Multraship. A leak in the hull of the ' France' was sealed by a diver from Terneuzen with the tug 'Hendrik 7' (MMSI: 244690858). Barge lost oil after collision

Wed Mar 04 22:16:41 CET 2015 Timsen

On Mar 4, 2015, around 4 p.m. the barge "Zandkreek", 723 ts (EU-No.: 02005828), was in a head-on-collision with the "Ben-Gus", 1715 ts (EU-No.: 06004295) on the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal. Both vessels have suffered significant damage. The coal carrying "Ben-Gus" was prohibited to sail from the police. As it lost fuel oil, it was surrounded by an oil boom to prevent a pollution. The sand carrying "Zandkreek" was allowed to continue to Antwerp but has to call at a yard after the cargo has been unloaded. The National Police Agency assumed that a lack of communication between the two vessels was the cause of the accident.
