Fire in Pajaritos battled for several hours

On Nov 7, 2025, at around midnight, the 'Blue Phoenix' caught fire at the Permaducto piers, belonging to the Protexa business group, in Villa Allende, Coatzacoalcos municipality. The blaze prompted a response from the tugs "Azteca" and "México", using their pumps to spray water on the vessel and prevent the flames from spreading to other areas, as well as Civil Protection and Fire Department personnel from Coatzacoalcos, who battled the blaze for several hours. Smoke from the fire spread through several neighborhoods, including Pescadores, Centro, and Escolleras. The fire was initially brought under control on Nov 8 at around 2:00 a.m. The port was closed to navigation during the emergency response. Moments later, the fire reignited, and firefighting efforts resumed. The tugs remained in the vicinity, while firefighters and specialized personnel boarded the vessel to completely extinguish the flames. Reports indicated that two people suffered minor burns. The cause of the fire was still unknown; however, unofficial reports indicated that it started in the wheelhouse and gradually spread to other areas of the ship, which had arrived in Coatzacoalcos in early August and has been docked at the Permaducto pier since then. The incident occurred amidst a bottleneck at the Pajaritos terminal. The Cuban m/v 'Ocean Mariner' arrived on Oct 27 and remains at anchor, unable to refuel.
