Ferry on its longest voyage from Japan to Greece
On Jan 7, 2025, the 'Yabusa' was taking on bunkers in Singapore’s eastern anchorage ahead of its voyage to Piraeus, after spending the past 24 years sailing across the Tsugaru Strait, between the islands of Honshu and Hokkaido. Due to Houthi terrorist attacks on Red Sea shipping, the vessel will take a longer route from Singapore to Piraeus via the Cape of Good Hope, a voyage lasting nearly two months. The ferry operated as 'Habayusa No. 3' for the Japanese company Seikan Ferry until it was sold to Greek interests in mid-2024. The 'Yabusa's owner is the Sunquest Oceanic, a Marshall Islands-registered entity, and the ship has been registered under the Panamanian flag for its delivery voyage. The ship will be operating on routes from Piraeus to the islands of the Saronic Gulf in the future.
Former Japanese ferry rebuilt and renamed for service in Saronic Gulf
The Saronic Ferries have given the former Japanese 'Hayabusa No. 3', which was acquired in early 2024, the permanent name 'Callirhoe' in connection with the ferry now being ready to be integrated into the company’s fleet, which will then consist of six RoPax ferries. Saronic Ferries purchased the shuo from Seikan Ferry. The vessel was renamed 'Yabusa' after the acquisition and initially rebuilt with additional accommodation structures atthe COSCO Shipyard in China, before being towed to Piraeus, werhere it arrived on March 4 for final completion, which has now been finished. The ship will now be deployed on the company’s routes from Piraeus to the islands in the Saronic Gulf.
