Yacht freed from fishing gear off Wick
On 30 July, 2026, at 9.25 a.m., the RNLI lifeboat 'Roy Barker II' of the Wick station was launched following a request from the HM Coastguard to assist the 'Céomlag', which had become entangled in fishing gear off the Caithness coast with two people on board. The yacht had issued a Pan Pan approximately 11 nautical miles southwest of Wick. The lifeboat arrived on scene at 10 a.m. to find the yacht fouled on a creel line, leaving it unable to manoeuvre. Working with the yacht's crew, the volunteers freed the vessel from the seabed before sailing under its own mainsail towards Wick, escorted by the lifeboat. On the approach to Wick Harbour, with the condition of the propeller still unknown, the yacht was brought safely alongside the lifeboat for the final manoeuvre into the Wick Marina, where it arrived safely at 1.15 p.m. The lifeboat was ready for service again at 1.48 p.m. Report with photo:
