Bulk carrier attacked off Romania

The 'Christina B', transporting coal from Norfolk, USA, to Ukraine, was struck by a drone on July 24, 2026, at 12.30 a.m. The attack took place 22 nautical miles southeast of the town of Sfântu Gheorghe, within Romania’s Exclusive Economic Zone, in pos. 44°34.45′ N, 029°56.17′ E. The strike struck the No. 6 hatch cover and damaged the ship’s cargo hold and hull. The 'SAR Apollo' and 'SAR Artemis' were mobilised by the Romanian Maritime Rescue Agency (ARSVOM). A helicopter of the General Aviation Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs carried out an aerial reconnaissance mission to assess the situation. There were no injuries among the crew. Bulk carrier involved in rescue of migrants

On Nov 19, 2022, the 'Christina B', en route from Istanbul to Tarragona, was involved in an SAR operation of the Italian Coast Guard in difficult sea conditions during which 500 migrants on board a fishing boat needed assistance 70 miles off the coast of Sicily. Several Coast Guard boats transferred the migrants to the port of Pozzallo. Six men and one woman who were rescued by the "Christina B" and taken to shore too. Four bodies were found lifeless at sea, while two people remained missing. The Algerian authorities coordinated the response 170 miles from the Algerian coast and requested the collaboration of the Italian Coast Guard, which took care of the migrants and of the four bodies.
