Refloated ship towed to Terneuzen
The 'Corneligue', which had run aground near Moerdijk in 2022, was pulled to the port of Terneuzen on July 23, during the second leg of its tow. Once all the paperwork has been finalised, it was due to depart on its final voyage to the scrapyard in Ghent. Grounded ship removed after years
After the crane ship 'Rijos' of J. Timermans had removed mud banks, which had built up and dug a trench for the 'Corneligue', on June 18, 2026, at 10.30 a.m. with water jets, the tugs 'Hendrik 7' and 'DSLB Nova' of J. Smedeman pulled the derelict ship off the ground on the Wester Scheldt near Moerdijk, where it had languished since it broke lose in a storm on Feb 18, 2022. After an initial inspection by Rijkswaterstaat, the convoy was allowed to proceed to Hansweert, jointly with the 'Rijos'. After being sold and subsequently arrested due to legal and financial disputes, the vessel was laid up in 's-Gravendeel, before being moved to an anchorage near Moerdijk in March 2021. During severe winter storms in February 2022, the vessel broke lose from its mooring, drifted out into the Hollands Diep waterway, and ran hard aground near the Zwaluwse Dike in Moerdijk. In January 2026, Rijkswaterstaat officially designated the 'Corneligue' as a shipwreck/maritime hazard. They issued a formal order, stating that the vessel posed a risk to passing commercial shipping, anchored ships, and the local environment, green-lighting its mandatory removal and disposal.
