The Coast Guard flew over the area with the Nemo 11 helicopter, which took off from the Decimomannu base, in an attempt to locatethe body of fisherman Enrico Piras, but the operations were complicated by strong gusts of wind and very rough seas. The skipper Antonio Morlè, went down with the vessel, which was resting 200 meters below the surface, impossible to recover at this time. Adeverse weather hampers SAR operation
The search operation for the skipper Antonio Morlè, and the deckhand Enrico Piras, 53 and 63 years old, both from Tortolì, of the fishing vessel "Luigino", which was suspended at on Feb 11 sunset, was scheduled to be resumed at daybreak on the morning of Feb 12. However, the weather conditions were still unfavourable, and a significant deterioration was forecast. Mistral winds are expected, which could hamper the search efforts. The vessel had sunk on the morning of Feb 11 about three nautical miles east of the port of Santa Maria Navarrese. The alarm was raised, after the Arbatax operations center was alerted via the Cospas-Sarsat system, which supports SAR operations by providing positional data for vessels in distress. The patrol boat "CP 811' and a helicopter from the port authority had patrolled the coast until sunset.. The fishing vessel "Zeus," belonging to the same company, was also nearby. Both vessels had been encountering stormy seas with wind speeds of up to 60 km/h and waves up to three meters high.
