The Valencia Mussel Growers Association has denounced a serious accident that occurred on July 19, 2026, in the Port of Valencia. According to the group, the 'Eco Valencia' broke lose from its mooring lines within the port area and went adrift, without propulsion or control, drifting towards the La Xita area, a traditional location for Valencian mussel growers. It then allided with two mussel rafts used for cultivating Valencian mussels, causing one to sink and the other to suffer serious structural damage . The mussel growers asserted that the accident has resulted in the loss of a significant portion of the July and August harvest, a key period for marketing the traditional Valencian product. The main casualty was the Polit farm, which was completely destroyed and sank after the impact. The second affected farm was the Concha, which suffered significant damage to its port side, with damage to both the bow and stern, damage to the protective netting, and the disabling of part of the outrigger structure. The incident left the farm out of production during the summer season, with the consequent loss of the harvest and economic hardship for the producers.
