Return of ferry further delayed
There was a need for a further postponement of the commissioning of the 'Ellen' until June 19, as there were challenges that needed more time. Adjustments and additional approvals have been needed to ensure that all installations were meeting the necessary safety requirements. The new batteries have been installed and readied, but the ferry may only be put into service when all safety conditions were in place. The ferry started trials on June 16. The 'Ellen's batteries needed to be replaced, as they lost a maximum of 30% of their capacity, which has been reached after approximately eight years of operation, which was two years shorter than expected. The new batteries have a guaranteed service life of 15 years, they can be charged faster and are better utilised in operation. To meet the high demand for travel to and from Ærø, extra departures have been introduced with the 'Skjoldnæs' on the route Søby-Faaborg / Faaborg-Søby. The high demand for travel meant many sold-out departures, while public holidays, events, asphalt work and the port expansion in Søby put extra pressure on traffic.
More trouble with battery system
Due to problems with the batteries' new cooling, degassing, and ventilation system, the recommissioning of the 'Ellen' has been delayed once again, and the ferry remained stationary at the shipyard in Søby. The shipping company now cited June 4 as the new date.
Replacing of battery pack takes longer than expected
