On Aug 21, 2026, the 'Emerald Bay' was subjected to an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV/drone) attack while navigating the Black Sea, after having left Tuzla on Aug 18. Following the incident, the crew on board was evacuated. On Aug 22 the ship was moored of Samsun and left the anchorage again on Aug 29. As the damage to the vessel was extensive, but did not restrict its maneuverability, it transited the Bosphorus under the escort of tugs of the General Directorate of Coastal Safety (KEGM) on Sep 2. The unladen vessel was expected to proceed to the nearest shipyard. According to an official statement by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) of the Philippines, two of the 19 Filipino seafarers serving on the vessel were safely repatriated to their home country.
