Injured person medevaced in Altenwörth lock

On the evening pf Oct 14, 2025, the Zwentendorf and Altenwörth fire departments, along with the police and emergency services, were called to a rescue operation on the 'Emerald Sun', enroute from Passau to Vienna, on the Danube. One person had suffered a suspected femoral neck fracture after a fall and had to be taken to the hospital immediately. To allow emergency personnel the smoothest possible access to the ship, the river cruise ship entered the Altenwörth lock, where emergency personnel were already waiting. The fire department and emergency services were able to gently remove the injured person from the ship and transport him to a hospital for further medical treatment. After approximately one hour, the operation was successfully concluded, and all deployed personnel were able to return to the ship.
