Fishermen boarded drifting bulk carrier
Fishermen from Varna have boarded the 'Emil', which was drifting off Shabla, and filmed it. The footage showed that the bridge burned out completely and everything was stolen from the ship. No one was on board, its systems did not work and it could not be steered. The fishermen were out in their own boat off Shabla when they saw the 'Emil' and managed to climb aboard. Captain Nikolay Dobrev believed that the strikes on the 'Emil' were very precise. Five or six drones hit the ship for certain. The ship, which was drifting inside the Bulgarian Exclusive Economic Zone, has been taken under tow by a Turkish company. On Oct 13 at 8:30 a.m. the ship was located 65 nautical miles from the Bosphorus. The vessel's movements continued to be monitored by the Coastal Center in Burgas. Abandoned bulk carrier drifting in Black Sea
Navy helicopters have located the 'Emil', which has been adrift in the Black Sea since two months, about 40 kilometres east of Cape Shabla. The vessel was struck by a drone in the Odesa area on August 5. Following the fire, which gutted the accomodation block, bridge and engine room, and subsequent failure of its technical systems,it was rendered unmanageable and abandoned by its crew. Since then, the ship has been adrift in Romania's exclusive economic zone and drifted with the ocean currents, moving southwards. The Bulgarian Navy has issued a warning to vessels navigating the region about the presence of a dangerous, unmanned, and uncontrolled vessel in the indicated area. The ship was being monitored, and the relevant authorities were prepared to take the necessary measures, according to an Armed Forces statement.
