Fishing vessel prevented from sinking near Long Island
The US Coast Guard, the 'Lady Sea' (MMSI: 338365251) and the 'Jacklyn W' responded to the 'Emily Rose', that began taking on water near Long Island on the night of Sep 10, 2026. Coast Guard Sector Western Alaska & U.S. Arctic watchstanders received a VHF radio distress call at approximately 9:15 p.m. from the crew of the fishing vessel, which had struck a rock and was rapidly flooding with four crew members aboard. Watchstanders issued an UMIB and directed the launch of an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from the Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak to support the response. The Coast Guard aircrew and the fishing vessels delivered dewatering pumps to the 'Emily Rose'. The crew of the 'Lady Sea' tied the vessels together to keep the 'Emily Rose' pinned against the shore. Once the tide fell and grounded the vessel, the crew of the 'Emily Rose' applied patches to the source of the flooding and tested the integrity of the patch at the next high tide. The 'Lady Sea' towed the 'Emily Rose' approximately 11 nautical miles to the Fuller Boat Yard in Kodiak for further assessments and repairs. The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter 'Frederick Mann-WPC 1160 (MMSI: 338926460)' escorted the convoy and monitored the situation.
