Filipino crew members returned home
The five remaining Filipino crew members of the 'Europe I' arrived in Manila on Aug 17, 2026. They arrived on Emirates Flight EK334 at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3. Their return was arranged before the ship entered high-risk and warlike areas in the Northern Black Sea to protect their safety and security. Representatives from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) Medical Team welcomed the crew members. They received airport and financial assistance from the DMW and OWWA. They also underwent an initial health assessment. The DMW and OWWA instructed the manning agency to provide the crew members with physical and psychological assessments and debriefing sessions, when needed. The agency was also reminded to provide all benefits and compensation due to the crew members related to their repatriation. The DMW continued to remind manning agencies to closely monitor the safety and condition of Filipino crew members traveling in the Black Sea. Agencies are also expected to follow safety measures and existing protocols for ships in the area.
