Water ingress off La Hague
On the afternoon of June 7, 2026, the 'Fri Skien' suffered a leak and water ingress about 20 nautical miles off Cap de La Hague in the English Channel, en route from Amsterdam to Cherbourg. The CROSS Jobourg was notified. Although still capable of maneuvering and navigating, the ship requested assistance. The CROSS then activated level 2 of the ORSEC maritime emergency response plan (Civil Security Response Organisation), in conjunction with the Maritime Prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea. Taking advantage of the vessel's approach to Cherbourg, an assessment and intervention team boarded the vessel, along with marine firefighters equipped with pumping equipment. These teams were transferred around 7:00 p.m., with the assistance of the pilot boat from the Cherbourg civilian port. The assessment and intervention team determined that the ship had been stabilised. Thanks to favorable weather conditions, the shipowner, the maritime prefect, and the port authorities of Le Havre decided to direct the ship to the port of Le Havre for further inspections and assessments. The vessel docked in Le Havre on June 8 at around 4 p.m. The ship left the port again on June 13 after repairs, enroute to Pasajes with an ETA as of June 16.
