Trawler sank in Loire-Atlantique - Fundraising page created
The 'Newlook' that sank in this Loire-Atlantique port has been refloated on May 1, 2026, and at 1:30 a.m. the trawler was placed on the slipway after spending several hours at the bottom of the port in La Turballe (Loire-Atlantique). Securely strapped down, the 'Newlook' was emptied of its water and then lifted out of the water. It had sunk on the the night of April 29. On the morning of April 30, the company SM2P was called to raise the vessel. The three divers from this company, based in La Turballe, were assisted by the SNSM and a lifting company. The refloating proved particularly difficult due to the vessel's position, pressed against the quay. Based in La Turballe for three months for a complete overhaul, after 40 years of service to the fishing industry, the 'Newlook' sank while the engine was still to be installed, just before it was due to return to sea. While the hull and bridge did not appear to have suffered too much damage, the electronics and other sensitive fishing equipment have been destroyed. A solidarity campaign, including an online fundraising page (www.leetchi.com/fr/c/soutien-au-chalutier-newlook-et-a-sa-famille-1975003), has been created to support the crew. so they can get back to fishing as soon as possible. Trawler suffered hydraulic failure
On Aug 28, 2025, at 5.40 a.m. the lifeboat 'Phillipe Kieffer - SNS 17-11' of the SNSM Ouistreham was mobilized by the CROS Jobourg to assist the 'New Look-CN 689808', which was fishing in the Courseulles area. The trawler had suffered a hydraulic failure and was unable to release its fishing gear. A solution was sought to deliver the necessary oil canisters and allow the operator to intervene on his hydraulic circuit. One hour later, the lifeboat departed and picked up the oil canisters from a wind farm's maintenance base. Once on scene, the canisters wer etransferred onto the trawler, so the crew could fix the breakdown. To secure the lifting of his fishing gear and prevent it from hitting the propeller and/or control panel,a towing connection was established to the trawlerkeep it in position. After some maneuvering, the trawler could finally sail to its home port with its own power.
Assistance for disabled trawler
On March 7, 2018, the CROSS Joburg coordinated an assistance operation for the "New Look" 21 nautical miles from Barfleur. At 5 p.m. the crew of three had reported that the propeller was fouled by an obstruction and the ship was no longer maneuverable. The CROSS Jobourg immediately requested the Naval Operational Center in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin to dispatch the patrol boat "Flamant" of the Navy to assist. At 6.10 p.m. it was in contact with the "New Look" and deployed his inflatable boat with divers to clear the propulsion. At 6.40 p.m. they had succeeded, and the trawler could resume its route.
