Crew of attacked bulk carrier repatriated
On Sep 12, the 26 Filipino crew members of the 'Gingo' were repatriated to the Philippines following the attack on the bulk carrier eight days before. They had managed to leave the ship unharmed by Sep 4 and arrived via Emirates Airlines Flight EK334 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3. They were met by DMW Assistant Secretary Julyn Ambito-Fermin, representatives of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the Manila International Airport Authority Medical Team. The seafarers received airport and financial assistance from the DMW and OWWA and underwent initial medical checks upon their arrival. The Philippine Embassy in Warsaw, the Honorary Consulate in Kyiv, and the Migrant Workers Office in Prague were involved in coordinating the process. The shipping company and the licensed Philippine manning agency assisted with the crew's welfare and the necessary travel documents.
Bulk carrier attacked by drones
The 'Gingo', with a Filipino crew on board, was targeted by drones in the Black Sea near Pivdennyi on Sep 2, 2026. The bulk carrier was struck at the stern, causing a fire, which spread to the whole accommodation area and navigation bridge, despite attempts of the crew to put it out with the ship's own firefighting equipment. The ship was disabled and adrift with the threat of further drone attacks. Video: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Dczh2-hDj9-/
