Ship hit by Russian drone
The 'Golden Rose' was set on fire by a Russian drone attack, after the ship departed the port of Chornomorsk on the night of July 21, 2026, in pos. 45 59 N, 030 48 E and required immediate assistance. The crew, which included a Syrian captain and Egyptian sailors, had fled onto the forecastle. The projectile has hit near the funnel and set the accommodation block and bridge on fire. The flames then spread over several decks and were raging out of control. The crew was safely evacuated by the Maritime Guard of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. The burning bulk carrier was detected by technical surveillance systems, prompting the immediate deployment of Maritime Guard patrol boats to the scene. The rescue operation was conducted under hazardous nighttime conditions and amid the ongoing threat of further Russian drone and missile strikes. Despite the risks, Ukrainian border guards successfully brought their patrol boats alongside the damaged vessel and evacuated all 16 crew members. The crew consisted of 14 Egyptian nationals and two Syrian nationals. They were transported safely ashore, where they underwent medical examinations. The Ukrainian authorities confirmed that none of the seafarers were injured during the incident.
