Wreck removal nearing completion
The operation to recover the ' GV Resolution' off the coast of Pembrokeshire was nearing completion. The specialist marine contractors Jevington Logistics, from Pembroke Dock, started recovering the ship on June 29. It used an excavator with shears attached on a 36 metres long barge to cut the vessel up into five large sections. These sections were then cut into smaller pieces by staff using oxy-propane torches, before being sent to a local company to be recycled. It was estimated there would be a total of 110 tonnes of steel salvaged from the ship. After the main dismantling work had cleared the vessel, the company would search the rocks near to where the 'GV Resolute' was grounded as well as the seabed below to ensure nothing had been left behind. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) had been monitoring the pollution prevention measures. The salvors installed a boom around the perimeter of the wreck. Tug, workboat and barge working on wreck removal
An exclusion zone remained in place indefinitely around the 'GV Resolute', as salvage teams continued the work on removing the stranded vessel. The wreckl has become the focus of a complex salvage operation involving heavy machinery and multiple vessels. The vessel will be cut up and loaded onto a barge before being taken to Fishguard Harbour to be processed further. The Fishguard Harbour Authority issued a notice to mariners on June 25, advising them to avoid the area near the wreck, which lies by the cliffs below Penrhyn caravan park. The salvage operation was being carried out by Jevingtons Logistics, using the tug 'Forth Trojan', the work boat 'Handfast' and a 40-metre barge. Wreck removal has commenced
Salvage work has begun on the 'GV Resolute', which was wrecked off the Pembrokeshire coast in stormy weather in the early hours of Dec 11 2025, at 3.28 a.m., on June 28. Tugs, a barge and safety boats were spotted next to the wreck. More than 10,000 litres of fuel and oil were already removed from the vessel in January. Later the guard ship had become further submerged, with much of the stern and part of the deck covered by sea at high tide and the hold full of water. The salvage was a complex operation due to the positioning of the wreck and tidal and weather conditions. Salvage operators from around the UK and Europe had tendered for the removal of the vessel. The Pembrokeshire specialist maritime firm Jevington Logistics was involved in the operation. The vessel may be cut up on site before being transported to Goodwick Harbour, where a crane has been placed on standby to assist with the recovery process.
