Funnel fire on tanker
On the morning of Aug 5, 2026, at 5.30 a.m., a fire broke out aboard the 'Havva Ana' in the Çanakkale Strait enroute from Bulgaria to Adana. The vessel, which was unloaded, had suffered an engine failure coinciding with a fire in its funnel, while transiting off the coast of Gallipoli. After the ship's captain reported the situation via radio to the Dardanelles Vessel Traffic Services Directorate, the tugs 'Kurtarma 20' (IMO: 9995117) and 'Kurtarma 16' (IMO: 9915052), operated by the General Directorate of Coastal Safety (KEGM), were dispatched to the scene. Other vessels scheduled to transit the strait were informed of the incident. The tanker was escorted to the Şevketiye Anchorage Area by a pilot and tugboats and moored in pos. 40° 26' N 026° 52 E. There have been no reports of injuries among the crew nor a marine pollution.
