Fire on tank barge in Gorinchem

In the cabin block of the "Idris" which was berthed at Gorinchem in the Merwede Canal a fire broke out on Mar 4, 2016. It was remarked at 11.40 a.m. because of dense smoke development. The fire rescue was alerted and attended with heavy equipment. They enforced access to the cabins by smashing the glass of the windows. Police cordoned off the cycle way at the embankment. The firefighters found out that there was no one on board. At 12.10 p.m. the fire rescue had the fire under control. It could be confined to the living quarters, where, however, damage was significant. At 12.30 a.m. they started ventilating the smoke from inside.
