Fishing vessel fired upon with water cannon and then supplied and assisted by Taiwan Coastguard

Thu Oct 08 10:36:22 CEST 2026 Timsen

The Taiwan Coast Guard used a water cannon on the 'Jin Sha', which had illegally entered Taiwan’s waters and refused to respond to commands on Oct 1, 2026. The Coast Guard had initially detected an unidentified boat at around 11 a.m., 15.5 nautical miles northeast of Dongsha, part of the Pratas Island atoll southwest of Taiwan. The Taiwanese patrol boat 'Yunlin' was sent to investigate and found two Chinese fishing vessels, besides the 'Jin Sha' also the ' the Yue Hui Dong Yu 75066', both operatingabout 27 nautical miles east of the island. It broadcast instructions for the vessels to leave the area, but only the 'Yue Hui Dong Yu 75066' followed the instructions. The 'Jin Sha' did not respond to three radio warnings from the patrol boat. It then moved into a position about 200 meters and fired its water cannon for approximately 30 seconds. The vessel still failed to respond, so the 'Yunlin' moved closer. The second time, it fired its water cannon for 90 seconds amd then approached the Chinese vessel, instructing the crew to leave or face arrest. The crew of the 'Jin Sha' claimed to be experiencing mechanical troubles. The Taiwan Coast Guard supplied the vessel with 35 hot meals and towed it out of Taiwan’s restricted waters on Oct 2. It was then turned over to a Chinese workboat. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwfgI6kuujg&source_ve_path=MjM4NTE&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fmaritime-executive.com%2F
