Luxury yacht destroyed by fire in Brindisi

The 'John' has partially sunk following extensive damage from a fire at the Marina di Brindisi, which broke out on Oct 3, 2026, at 9.00 a.m, Firefighters from the Brindisi provincial command attended the scene, and a water jet attempted to extinguish the flames. One vehicle arrived from the Provincial Command as well as a motorboat from the port detachment. The combined effort allowed the fire to be attacked both from land and from the water with initial success. Shortly after noon, the situation changed: the fire was reviving, and the yacht was moved to the nearby Punta Riso breakwater by the tugs 'Asmara' and 'Marietta Barretta' from the Fratelli Barretta company, which continued to battle the flames. The yacht finally sank next to the breakwater, with only the damaged bow remaining visible above the water. The Port Authority was investigating the cause of the fire. The ARPA Brindisi, the Regional Agency for the Prevention and Protection of the Environment in the Puglia region, measured air quality, which showed no abnormalities, and took water samples to test for hydrocarbon leaks. No injuries have been reported.
