Water ingress on Dortmund-Ems-Canal

The 'Jolien', enroute from Bad Essen to Nordenham. loaded with about 820 tons of grain, suffered water on the Dortmund-Ems-Canal on Oct 4, 2026, at 12.46 p.m. in the Dörenthe district of Ibbenbüren. The crew discovered that water had seeped into a space between the cargo hold and the hull and berthed in the Hafen St. in Ibbenbüren. The vessel was loaded with about 820 tons of grain. The fire department was alerted and deployed a total of four submersible pumps to remove the water from the affected area and secure the ship. As a precaution, emergency personnel also deployed an oil boom on the water to prevent any potentially leaking operating fluids from spreading onto the waterway. The cause of the water ingress on the cargo ship was unclear. Emergency services continued their work into the afternoon.
