Ferry crew assisted yacht skipper with health problems

The crew of the 'Kaweskar' assisted a 60-year-old Chilean citizen on July 12, 2026, who was experiencing severe respiratory distress while aboard the yacht 'Vegvicir', anchored in Puerto King, in the Magdalena Channel. An emergency call was received at 12:55 p.m., immediately activating the response protocol. The vessel headed towards Puerto King, and the Maritime Authority was notified of the situation. At 1:26 p.m., the patient boarded the ferry, where he received initial care from the crew and a doctor who was among the passengers. His condition was stabilised during the voyage. In coordination with the Chilean Navy, at 4:36 p.m., the patient was transferred in the Magdalena Channel to a Chilean Navy launch, which took him at higher speed to Punta Arenas to receive medical attention.
