Ageing fishing vessel was in danger of sinking

Tue Nov 04 11:34:06 CET 2025 Timsen

On Nov 3, 2025, at 8.15 a.m., the Burg Volunteer Fire Department was called after the "Kehrheim" in Burgstaaken took on water and had to be pumped out. After the harbour master Mirco Beckedorf raised the alarm, the fire department responded with 15 personnel. The "Kehrheim" had already sunk by about half a meter to a meter overnight due to the failure of its bilge pump. To remove the water, a total of four submersible pumps from the fire department and the municipal works department were deployed by three fire fighters wearing survival suit. As a precaution, the fire department also surrounded the ship with an oil boom to prevent potential water pollution. The operation was completed after about 2,5 hours. The faulty bilge pump on the "Kehrheim" was also returned to working condition, so that the cutter will stay afloat again for the time being.
