Bulk carrier was threatened to sink after allision
The bulk carrier 'True Mariner' (IMO: 9599822) was in allision with the 'Kmax Emperor' (IMO: 9477426), while being moored at the Kandla Port anchorage on Sep 11, 2026, with a crew of 19—comprising of 12 Syrians, two Vietnamese nationals, and five Indians on board. The 'Kmax Emeror' was struck by the bow of the 'True Mariner', causing the anchor chain to become entangled with the other ship. Following the allision, the 'Kmax Emperor', breached at the port side stern, was initially threatened to sink, dragging the 'True Mariner' along with it. The crew of the 'True Mariner' managed to release the anchor and move away from the scene, anchoring in pos. 22° 44' N 069° 52' E. They also assisted in rescuing seven crew members from the other vessel. The Indian Coast Guard immediately launched a rescue operation, evacuating 21 of the 24 crew members from the 'Kmax Emperor'. Three key officers—including the ship's captain and two chief engineers—remained on board to assess the situation and manage technical operations. To bring the situation fully under control and prevent the vessel from sinking, two tugs from the port administration have been kept on standby at the scene. It could later be stabilised. Additionally, two Indian Coast Guard vessels arrived at the location to ensure safety and handle any potential emergencies, maintaining a close watch on the situation. All other daily commercial and shipping operations at Kandla Port are continuing as usual. The Indian Coast Guard activated marine pollution control measures, maintaining coordination with the Directorate General of Shipping, relevant government authorities, and the Gujarat state administration. The Indian Coast Guard remained on high alert to ensure maritime safety and protect the coastal environment. The 'Kmax Emperor' had arrived off Kandla on Sep 9 at 7.42 p.m. UTC to deliver a cargo of 85968 tons coal bulk from Pengerang/Telok Ramunia in the Deendayal Port.
