Us forces disabled Zombie tanker

Mon Jul 27 12:18:59 CEST 2026 Timsen

American forces have disabled the 'Lavine' with the obviously false IMO-No. 9177686 in the Gulf of Oman, after the ship had attempted to run the blockade at least four times. The ship’s crew was warned and didn’t comply with commands. The vessel entered the U.S. blockade perimeter on July 23. The U.S. forces disabled the vessel by firing into its engine room. It was the second commercial ship to be disabled since the military reimposed its blockade. The U.S. Central Command also has redirected 12 vessels. The 'Lavine' was regarded as a so-called Zombie tanker, once the 'Macho Queen' (IMO: 9238868) which disappeared once the US Office of Foreign Assets Control had sanctioned it on Aug 21, 2025. The AIS still showed the 'Macho Queen' under its real IMO number and MMSI just prior to the Ofac designation, when it loaded around two million barrels of Iranian crude from another Ofac‑designated tanker, the 'Tifani' (IMO: 9273337) off Malaysia via a ship-to-ship transfer. The vessel continued to broadcast its assigned IMO number only until Aug 22. On Sep 26, the former 'Macho Queen' re‑emerged as the 'Lavin', now using the dead IMO-No. of the tanker 'Pedrot' (IMO: 9177686), which had been broken up in 2018, and an anomalous MMSI affiliated with Mali. On Oct 9, the 'Lavin' dropped the Mali MMSI and adopted a new one suggesting it reflagged to Comoros. That number, however, was already in use by the tanker 'Guly' (IMO: 9256236), which had started transmitting this number just two days prior, while she was lingering at anchorage off Sohar, after having departed the port of Khor al Zubair on Sep 3. On Oct 10, the 'Lavin' arrived off the refining hub of Shandong province; shortly afterwards its AIS signal disappeared entirely. The vessel discharged the Iranian crude it loaded from Tifani at Dongjiakou on Oct 21 as 'Lavin', later becoming the 'Lavine'.
