Engine failure off Santos

The 'LFG Affluence' suffered an engine failure at the entrance to the port of Santos on the afternoon of Aug 11, 2026, near Góes Beach, between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The pilot on board deployed both anchors for an emergency anchoring, allowing the vessel to slow down and come to a stop. He then called tugs to the scene to take the disabled vessel to warehouses 16/17. With assistance from five tugs, the vessel was taken to the public berth 32. As a safety measure, the Santos-Guarujá ferry crossing was suspended from 3:42 p.m. to 3:53 p.m., while preventive maneuvers were carried out with some vessels in the ferry system. After safety measures kept the ship away from the ferry crossing area, the operations could be resumed. However, the service had to be suspended again from 4:09 p.m. to 4:18 p.m. to allow the vessel to be towed away. The crossing was then cleared. The ship had departed Vila do Conde on July 28, and was supposed to load a cargo of sugar in Santos.
