US tanks and vehicles taken to Europe to reinforce eastern flank of NATO

Wed May 13 13:10:09 CEST 2026 Timsen

On May 10, 2026, the 'Liberty Power' berthed in Gdansk, enroute from Corpus Christi, as part of a US reinforcement on NATO's eastern flank in Europe as part of the US operation "Atlantic Resolve." 4,000 soldiers with hundreds of tanks and vehicles are en route from Texas to Europe. The 'Liberty Power' was the first freighter to complete its transatlantic crossing and has been unloading the tanks and ammunition in Gdansk since May 11.. The 2nd Armored Brigade of the 1st Cavalry Division from Fort Hood, Texas, furled its regimental colors at its home base on May 1st with a formal ceremony. The approximately 4,000 soldiers planned to unfurl them again in the coming days on NATO's eastern flank. While the soldiers were airlifted to Poland and Germany, the brigade’s tanks and wheeled vehicles are following by sea. From the Ford Hood base, they will be transported by rail to the port of Corpus Christi on the Gulf of Mexico, 500 kilometers away, where they will be loaded onto ships. In addition to Gdansk, Bremerhaven and Thessaloniki will also be used for the unloading of military equipment until June. The maneuver is a sign of readiness to defend NATO territory together with the Allies.
