Four containers fell onto bunker tanker

On June 9. 2026, at around 4 p.m., four containers fell from the container m/v 'COSCO Hope' (IMO: 9472165), which had arrived from Southapmpton, UK, the previous day, during cargo handling operations, and crashed on the deck of the 'Mati', which was moored alongside, at the Antwerp Gateway Terminal (DP World) in the Deurganckdok in the Port of Antwerp (Waaslandhaven). There were no injuries, but the damage was significant, and there was a limited oil contamination. Emergency procedures were initiated immediately. The situation was being investigated by DP World and further monitored in close cooperation with the competent authorities and agencies, while terminal operations continued. Nothing was yet known about the precise cause of the incident.
