Sailing yacht in collision with hopper dredger on the Weser
On Oct 20, 2026, at around 7 p.m. a German 11-m-yacht, which was moving under sail, was in collision with the 'Medway' on the Weser River near Bremerhaven. Both ships were sailing upstream with the incoming tide, when the collision occurred approximately at channel marker 57. The sailing yacht suffered damage at the stern and at starboard side. The aluminum hull, however, withstood the impact. The four crew members got soaked, but escaped unharmed. Initial findings indicated that the hopper dredger had sustained only paint abrasions. The Bremen Water Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Dredger delivered
The "Eke Möbius" was delivered as the second of his kind by the Sietas shipyard Hamburg to the Josef Möbius Bau-GmbH. The design and construction of these complex ships marks a successful premiere for the shipyard. The first of them, the "Werner Möbius", was delivered in November 2010. The ship was berthed at Cuxhaven Steubenhöft from Jan 26 until Feb 3, 2013, before heading to sea.
