Collision on Mahatma River
On May 13, 2026, the 'Spil Ratna' (IMO: 9886811), coming from Samarinda, was in collision with the 'Meratus Kolawa', enroute from Jakarta to Balikpapan, on the Mahatma River near Kutai Kartanegara in the Muara Jawa District of East Kalimantan in a narrow stretch connecting Samarunda with the upstream regions. Eight containers, filled with logistics products , were lost over board and drifted with the current, when the 'Spil Ratma' damaged and sliced the whole starboard side of the 'Meratus Kolawa' with its starboard side bow, which suffered significant damage above the waterline too. The port authority KSOP deployed teams to locate and secure the boxes. Fishermen and boat operators were put on alert. It was suspected that one of the ships had ignored the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (P2TL). The 'Meratus Kolaka' berthed in Samarinda on May 19.
