Chief engineer died on board
A crew member of the "Milos I", en route to Port Klang, suffered a medical emergency on Aug 19, 2026. The Argentine Navy received an alert from the ship's captain regarding the deteriorating condition of the Chief Engineer. The case was handled by the Mar del Plata Coordination Center, which, after conducting a medical consultation via radio, recommended initiating immediate care measures for the patient's condition and diverting the vessel to the nearest coast as quickly as possible. As the medical condition worsened, the Navy-operated Coordination Center ordered the offshore patrol vessel ARA "Storni", currently in Argentine waters participating in the "Fraterno XXXIX" exercise, to proceed immediately to the "Milos I." The possibility of a medical evacuation by air had been considered beforehand but could not be carried out due to visibility issues. Throughout the day, the Mar del Plata Coordination Center maintained constant communication with the merchant vessel's captain. Late in the night, the National SAR Agency was notified of the Ukrainian crew member's death. Upon reaching the vicinity of the "Milos I," the ARA "Storni" escorted the vessel to the area off the port of Mar del Plata, where, following the completion of mandatory administrative procedures, the body was brought ashore on Aug 20 at 12:46 p.m. Report with photo: https://portalportuario.cl/argentina-tripulante-ucraniano-muere-tras-sufrir-complicaciones-medicas-a-bordo-de-buque-mercante/
