Yacht towed to Cherbourg after orca attack off Spaiin

On the morning of Oct 29, 2025, the SNSM station in Goury assisted the 'Mots Bleus' with three people on board, which was adrift off the coast of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin after being disabled in the Raz. At around 5:00 a.m. the yacht requested assistance from the CROSS Jobourg approximately 14 kilometres north of the port of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. The yacht was enroute from the Mediterranean to the Netherlands. While rounding Spain, it was attacked by an orca on the Atlantic and had to stop in a Spanish port to check the condition of the yacht. The Spanish shipyard determined that the yacht could return to sea and that the rudder would hold until they reached the Netherlands. This proved not to be the case when they passed the Raz Blanchard.
